The bar charts compare the career choices apart from full-time ones made by UK graduate and postgraduate students after graduating from school in the year 2008.
It is shown that most graduate students, as many as 29,665, chose to further their study instead of getting a job, whereas only 3,500 students chose voluntary work, which made up the smallest proportion of graduate students. As for the figures for part-time work and unemployment, they were 17,735 and 16,235 respectively, being very close to each other.
The second bar chart suggests that the amount of postgraduate students who decided to study further was 2,725, which, same as graduate students, was also the most popular choice. Similarly, only 345 postgraduate students went into voluntary work, which was the smallest amount compared with the other three destinations. Part-time work and unemployment were also the second and the third largest groups, with 2,535 postgraduate students getting a part-time job and 1,625 being unemployed.
In summary, although the total number of UK postgraduate students were much fewer than graduate students, the proportions of the four destinations were quite similar. Most graduate and postgraduate students chose to study further and very few of them chose to work as a volunteer.
